Wanted and Wired by Vivien Jackson

Wanted and Wired by Vivien Jackson

This book is everything the synopsis promised and more. It was perfect for me! I love science fiction and the idea of technologically enhanced super humans just hits all my yes buttons. This book is exactly what I would find on the Syfy channel—well maybe waaay late night Syfy channel. It has quite the sexy times throughout the story. So not really “prime time” material but entirely enjoyable to read. The setting for this story is a dystopian United States where Texas has seceded. Mari is the daughter of a famous scientist who was supposedly taken prisoner for his crimes. Read More

PULSE (Planetary Union of Life-form Salvation and Emancipation) is an intergalactic empire that was created to maintain the PULSE laws and fight for freedom for all female life-forms. The females are trained from all over the galaxy to explore new worlds and rescue any females in need. More pointedly this story surrounds what it takes to become a soldier of PULSE. A Warriors Touch by Lucy Varna

The Pruxnae Series by Lucy Varna

I came across this series this past summer and found it to be fascinating! Currently there are four books in this series and since I have read them all I decided to do a post that had all four books with a mini-review of each. Thief of Hearts Book (The Pruxnae #2) On the eve of her appointment to the ranks of the elite Queen’s Guard, Alna Lomig bumps into Gared ab Einif. Her wariness of the handsome Pruxnæ melts under his roguish charm, softening her resistance to his gentle courtship. When he sneaks into her room in the House Read More

The Last Day of Captain Lincoln by EXO Books

The Last Day of Captain Lincoln by EXO Books

I enjoyed this book! I was able to get my sci-fy geek on but there was also a deeper thematic significance that revolves around death. This is set in space aboard a ship that is run by the most advanced sentient supercomputer to have ever existed in their galaxy (oh hells yeah!!). The society set up on the ship is close to a utopian society. They exist on a nutritionally optimized vegetarian diet which they grow and harvest themselves. Which makes sense because who is going to take cattle or chickens in space, ha ha ha. The humans have real Read More

Unfathomable Chance by K.T. Munson

Unfathomable Chance by K.T. Munson

What a hilarious novel! This is a fun and intriguing story set in a diverse universe. I love reading comic science fiction and I don’t mean comics, 😉 comic science fiction is a sub-genre of soft science fiction, it is also known as comedy science fiction. This story has much humor as well as extraterrestrial creatures, space travel, interstellar politics, assassinations, and romance. There is a great backstory on Diana Williams that tells the tale on how she came to be the wearer of the bracelet that contains the Heart of the Cosmos. It is this entity which resides within Read More

Mind Waves by Amanda Uhl

Mind Waves by Amanda Uhl

“They walked in formation, each of the three men taking an outside stance with David on the inside. Guarding him was critical, so he could track the information they were after, while concealing their presence. Their job was to help him navigate the energy fields and fight off the mind’s natural defensive system, which operated similar to white blood cells attacking invading bacteria.” A team of mind hackers working together as a Mind Control Unit for the good of our country, I only wish this was a reality. Could you imagine how many lives could be saved if this was Read More

A Wizard’s Forge by A.M. Justice

“We do not seek to understand” the Master Logkeeper always reminded her, “only to preserve.” Setting: Three thousand years ago a crew of mineral miners set out on a mission from Earth to the planet of Gomorrah but due to sabotage were not able to make it to their destination. With the mission a failure Captain Wong of the shuttle Elesendar was forced to make an emergency stop in the orbit of what is now referred to “Knownearth.” The crew came down to the planet to search for iron, copper and other ores so that they might be able to Read More

Beauty and the Clockwork Beast by Nancy Campbell Allen. The Genre Minx Book Reviews

Beauty and the Clockwork Beast by Nancy Campbell Allen

I have been waiting for this book to come out since April and it is finally in my hot little hands. It was so much more than I had hoped for. It has the steampunk elements that I adore. It has vampires, shape-shifters, mediums and humans with exceptional qualities. Loved it! This book for me is amazing; it felt like it had a blending of Jane Eyre, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and Beauty and the Beast. Those three books happen to also be my favorites so I had warm fuzzies going on throughout this story. First thing first– Are Read More

Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews. The Genre Minx Book Reviews

Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews

I am not going to lie, I judge books by their cover. It is a weakness, 😏. If it had not been for the Wobble Challenge that I am taking part in over at Goodreads I am 100% positive I would have overlooked this gem of a book! It is a short story by the husband wife team that writes under the pen name of Ilona Andrews. I love, love, love their Kate Daniel series and for that reason I was willing to read this book, which I was so sure was going to be a let down. Oh no, no, Read More

The Rakam by Karpov Kinrade

The Rakam by Karpov Kinrade

I will admit I was a little lost in the beginning of this short novella. There was no backstory; you are just there, on the ship with “Sev,” the main character of this story. He is a dark and mysterious passenger who bought his passage on a whale-ship because he knows it will bring him to the ship he is truly after. A recluse, “Sev” appears to make everyone including the captain nervous because he stays aloof. He covers his hair and hands so that they will not truly know what he is, that is until he is ready for Read More

The Days of Tao by Wesley Chu

The Days of Tao by Wesley Chu

“Nazar closed the door firmly behind him and approached the showering minister. He cleared his throat. ‘You remember when I saved you from that assassination attempt?’ ‘What of it? You are acting strange, Nazar.’ ‘You got it all backward, sir. I was the assassin. I botched it. The explosive embedded in the binding of the book went off while I was placing it on your desk.’ Nazar raised his mangled arm. ‘It earned me this.’” This novella starts off fast and takes you along for the ride. Nazar reminds me of a character that triggers a detonator and Cameron is Read More

Princess of Tyrone by Katie Hamstead

Princess of Tyrone by Katie Hamstead

The names may be changed to protect the innocent but this is a re-telling of sleeping beauty. I want to warn you of that upfront because if you are expecting the “story” but uniquely different characters then you will dissatisfied. So you now know the premise in its entirety. So what makes this story worth reading? The setting is very creative. It is set in a unique solar system with space pirates, hovercrafts, and laser guns, oh my! So that is actually pretty neat for sci-fi fans like myself. The main character Appoline is raised by her three fairy aunts Read More

Starflight by Melissa Landers

Starflight by Melissa Landers

I have had this book since it was released but I had put off reading it. Why? Mainly because I had my fill of teen romances and was ugh with it all. I know I shouldn’t hate, and they are 18 which is a full two years older than most YA characters but still, I did not have any real desire to pick it up. I was a fool. This book was entirely wonderful. It was so reminiscent of the show Firefly that I could not help but be in love after the first hundred pages. I know that I Read More
