Emma lived her whole life believing she was a mere human, but when she’s attacked by a gang hunting creatures of the Myth, her entire existence is called into question. As she is forced to go on the run with a dangerous man, she learns that monsters are real, her twin sister has turned into a mass murderer, and despite her earth upbringing, she’s actually a bonafide descendant – a forbidden child of the gods.
Rogan is the leader of an Elv’ve’Norc team, a Mythical agency tasked with the protection of the Seven Planes. He’s on a mission to stop a sadistic vampire, bringing him into the path of Emma Sterling – the twin sister of the woman he’s most likely going to kill. And if that wasn’t enough of a romantic dealbreaker, he’ll be ordered to send Emma to stand trial, where she’ll be sentenced to life in the Myth’s highest-security prison simply because of what she is.
From the moment I started reading Elemental Claim I knew it was going to be intriguing. There is an eclectic blend of supernatural beings in this book, a little bit for everyone. From vampires, hell hounds, elementals, and angels, to gods and goddesses, there is a plethora of paranormal elements for one to choose from. I love that this story had the god Hades having a major role as he tried to protect his daughters. I also really liked the character of Snuffles and you are just going to have to read this story to figure out who that is. Worth the Read!
Emma Sterling and her twin sister Elizabeth had grown up on the move. Their mother had told them that they were in witness protection and had to live a life where they were virtually untraceable. Unfortunately, both sisters became a little lax after their mother died and Emma was definitely not prepared to fight off her abductors or for the world of Mythics. Emma believed herself and her sister to be 100% human so when an entire other world was revealed to her she did not believe it. Whether or not she wanted to believe what was being told to her, she had to because her sister was tangled up in a bad situation and there was little Emma could do for her.
Elizabeth had unknowingly connected herself to a very bad individual and became a slave to his will. When an Elv’ve’Norc team was dispatched from the Mythical agency to deal with whom they believed to be the person responsible for the ruthless slaughter of Myth beings, they came with guns blazing for Emma because they did not know that she was twin to Elizabeth. What a trip for Emma because her introduction into the world of supernatural was not easy at all. She was taken against her will, interrogated, and then held prisoner when all she wanted was to somehow find her sister and help her.
The man responsible for her abduction was Rogan Ketea Hunt of the Coventina Clan. He was not the kind of guy to ever lose focus on his objective until he met Emma. The more time he spent around her the more he desired her and the more he tried resisting her. Emma for her part did not try resisting Rogan at first but once she realized that he was only interested in using her to lure in her sister and her lover, Emma tried resisting him as much as possible. I loved this part of the story because both characters had a push-pull attraction and it was quite hilarious at times. Regardless of how they felt about each other they were on opposite sides and seemed doomed to be star-crossed lovers, until they weren’t.
Elemental Claim was a perfect blending of fantasy and contemporary romance. The plot is not a simple one, there are a lot of moving parts and the story just keeps pulling you deeper into it. I was completely invested in all the characters and I loathed the villain, loathed him! This story is told from many point of views and I love that. It helps to truly understand the characters inner most feelings and motivations. Rogan was truly tormented with his desire for Emma but it was quite humorous more than too serious. I laughed so many times with his inner feelings around Emma. So good! Overall, Elemental Claim is a story that I highly recommend and I look forward to the next book in the War of Myth series!
