Elaina Evans is a super-independent, beautiful, successful business owner of an upscale bar in Houston, Texas. Sebastian Stone is a former Navy, retired NCIS agent who now runs his own Private Investigating business. He’s also a recovering alcoholic with every reason to stay the hell away from the likes of Elaina Evans, especially when her brother, Dallas, keeps popping up as a person of interest in his PI cases.
But when Elaina and her friend, Rogan Rayner, approach him to locate the man who killed Elaina’s older brother more than a decade prior, he and Elaina both find they’re in for much more than they bargained for. Things get interesting when Sebastian makes Elaina a deal she finds hard to take but even harder to refuse.Boss Unwavering can be read as a standalone novel. It is the third and final book in the Boss Series, tying up all the loose ends from the previous books with new Main Characters and familiar secondary characters. It’s a journey of romance, suspense, danger, and the classic, slow-burn romance Nicole R. Locker is notorious for.
Boss Unwavering is the third book in the Boss series. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone but you would get more from the books if you read them in series order. Characters from the previous books make appearances throughout Boss Unwavering but you don’t have to be familiar with them to enjoy the story. It would just give you a better understanding of the family type dynamics going on. I have read the first and the third book in this series and I found both to be enjoyable reads filled with witty dialogue, strong female characters, sexy times, and ooh la la alpha males.
Elaina Evans runs her own business and she lives and breathes for her business. She has worked hard to make her bar as successful as it is and she did not gain success by being a pushover. Elaina is absolutely a woman who knows what she wants and is not afraid to go for it. At the start of the story, Elaina was at an auction hoping to buy a Harley Davidson motorcycle that held some sentimental value to her but unfortunately Elaina had not expected that Sebastian Stone would be bidding on the same item. Sebastian was not a man that Elaina was fond of to start with and after he started a bidding war with her that culminated with him winning the bike, he quickly became number one on her list of enemies.
Sebastian knew that Elaina did not like him very much but he needed it to be that way. Elaina’s brother was his number one suspect in a missing persons case that he was working on as a private investigator and Sebastian was not sure if Elaina was helping her brother or even aware of the criminal activities he was involved in. Despite wanting to keep Elaina at a distance, Sebastian realized that he was going to have to ask Elaina for help in figuring out what her brother was involved in. Elaina on the other hand was searching for her other brother’s killer and the trail had gone cold. She was now faced with the fact that she was going to have to hire a private investigator to find the man responsible for her other brother’s murder.
Sebastian and Elaina realize that they each need something from each other and come an arrangement. They agreed to set aside their feelings of animosity and work together temporarily until they both get what they need from the deal. What was supposed to be investigatory collaboration quickly turned into a life or death situation with Elaina being the target. Protecting Elaina was the last thing Sebastian should have done if he wanted to keep his distance from this fiery woman but he couldn’t help feeling protective of Elaina and when it became clear that she was in danger, he decided that he needed to keep her close in order to keep her safe. What neither of these stubborn characters ever expected was that they would desire each other in a way that was almost combustible. The hotter the danger became for Elaina, the hotter the relationship between these two unlikely characters became as well.
Boss Unwavering is a great enemies-to-lovers romance! The animosity between Elaina and Sebastian was palpable at the start as well as pretty humorous. I liked that their relationship went from restrained distaste to something more, on a slow pace. Even when things started to get steamy between them it was not a case of insta-love, it was more akin to “you infuriate me but I can’t help wanting your naughty bits, but this changes nothing between us.” Hilarious! The pacing was fabulous and the sexual tension between these characters was a slow smolder that built to a crescendo! The romance between these characters was written perfectly. Boss Unwavering was a fast and swoony read for me and I know you would enjoy it too!
