At 28, it's bad to be single. After four years of relationship struggles, Cat is ready to try anything.
That's when her friend tells her about her class' Dear Santa letters. One little boy asked for a new mommy, and she suggests Cat meets the kid's dad, just to see where things go. Cat figures it can't hurt...until she meets a stranger in the midst of a car accident. The man is handsome with a sad look in his eyes. He still wears a wedding band and she’s not sure his heart’s available, even if he makes her heart race. But, maybe he’s a widower? Cat wonders if she should resign herself to being an old maid, or whether she could possibly be the answer to a little boy's Christmas wish, unless there’s a third option – a future with the stranger.
Follow the Snowflakes is Christmastime novella that also incorporates other traditions than what you would normally expect with a Christmas story. I also really enjoyed that the Author included pictures at the end of the story that depicted scenes from the story but are meant to be colored if you’d like. That was pretty darn cool! Follow the Snowflakes is told from the perspective of the main character Cat, through her interactions with others and through diary entries. Cat had not been in a serious relationship in a while and the one that she thought was practically perfect turned out to be a ruse of the worst kind. So, the last thing that Cat wanted was to consider a date with a man that her best friend wanted her to meet because of a ‘Dear Santa’ letter.
Cat never made it to the function where her best friend hoped to introduce her to the ‘Dear Santa’ daddy though, because Cat was the only witness to a terrible accident and she had to help the man who was hurt by the car collision. With no one around to help and no access to a working phone, Cat took the wounded man to a hospital to be looked over. She stayed to report to the police what had happened and make sure that the man she rescued was going to be okay. She also left her number for the stranger in case he needed anything further in the future. Although she had not expected to hear from him again, she was happy to help when he called to request a ride as his vehicle was destroyed and no one else was available to help him.
When Cat returned to the hospital she was amazed by how attractive this man, whom she found out was named Hunter, was and that he was also, unfortunately for her, married by evidence of his wedding ring. Despite him being unavailable she liked him as a person and was happy to do him a favor. As it turned out Hunter was not married anymore as his wife had passed away but he still wore the wedding ring because he was not ready to move on. It must have just been that he had not met the right woman because as he and Cat got to know each other he began to feel that maybe he wanted more. As the twists and turns kept coming both Cat and Hunter had to decide if what they both had begun to feel was real or if it was just a part of the holiday magic that was all around them.
Follow the Snowflakes was a very complete and cute story for a novella. I enjoyed the romance but I loved the positive relationships that I saw in this story. Cat cracked me up throughout the story and I think she had a great outlook about the situations she found herself in. There was also a little bit of humor mixed in with the romance and I liked all the characters that were in this charming story. If you are looking for a holiday romance that is sweet, delightful, and with a few twists then I would highly recommend Follow the Snowflakes to you.
