He was one of the most feared creatures in the supernatural world, and yet, she was drawn to him unlike any other. His scent ignited her thirst. The sight of him drove her mad with want...
Lovers forever--or enemies to the death?
Sasha Ivanov was born to be wild. A vampire party girl, she stalks the L.A. clubs at night. Dancing. Drinking. Indulging her darkest appetites. Never sated, she's always looking for more: more danger, more excitement, more blood. But when she enters a supernatural fight club--and is tethered to her mortal enemy--Sasha realizes she's playing the most dangerous game of all...
Ewan Brun was born to kill vampires. A powerful berserker and unbeaten champion, he doesn't need a weapon to be deadly. He is the weapon. But when his soul becomes captive to the most beautiful vampire he's ever seen, he is all but powerless. He cannot resist Sasha--and cannot fight his desires. Is their love strong enough to defeat the gathering forces of darkness that threatens to destroy them both?
I read The Wicked Vampire with the mind frame of it being a stand-alone romance. It is the sixth book in the Last True Vampire series though and there is an overarching storyline the flows through this story as well as a romance between Sasha Ivanov and Liam Brún. I did not feel lost at any point in my reading of The Wicked Vampire. The Author does a great job of explaining what I needed to know regarding backstories and such to understand the impact of events that were taking place in this story.
Sasha had for a long time been a dhampir but had recently been turned vampire, giving up her soul so that she could become one of the undead for all eternity. Her turning was her choice as she had hoped that her transformation would be a turning point for a relationship that she was certain would deepen, only to be left to guard the roost while her love interest went in search of his true mate. To say that Sasha was a little angry or heartbroken was truly an understatement. Determined to move past her troubles she became a party girl, always looking for a dangerous time and taking lovers whenever she desired.
Doing all the wicked things that she desired quickly become boring to Sasha and one night looking for a thrill she and her friend Ani went to an underground supernatural fight club looking for some excitement. What Sasha received though was her soul and a tether to Liam Brún, a berserker, and that type of tethering was completely unheard of. Vampires and berserkers were mortal enemies as berserkers had hunted vampires almost to the point of extinction. Sasha knew she was tethered to Liam though the moment she received her soul back. A vampire only receives their soul when they find their true life mate. What a pickle Sasha was in, despite knowing the seriousness of the situation she could not keep herself from Liam.
Liam was an undefeated champion in the underground fight clubs but he did not care for the status, in fact he was hoping that his involvement would never get out. He was fighting at the clubs in hopes to raise enough money that he could buy his way out of his berserker clan. Liam’s clan king, Ian Gregor, kept his clan in absolute squalor because he used every penny the clan had to fund his campaign to eradicate the vampires. Ian was consumed with vengeance and he expected every male in his clan to have the same focus. If he was to find out about Liam’s activities, Liam would be severely punished. With that type of stress over his head Liam did not need to add onto his sins by taking an interest in Sasha but he couldn’t help himself.
Liam told himself that Sasha was just sex and for a while it was but things slowly began to change between these two characters. Sasha knew what Liam was to her but as a berserker Liam did not understand or feel a tethering as Sasha did. There had never been a pairing between a vampire and berserker so there was no history for them to go by. As feelings started to change and the situation became extremely dangerous for Sasha and Liam they will have to decide what they want and what they are willing to sacrifice because in order to see where their future lies there will need to be sacrifices made.
I found The Wicked Vampire to be a sizzling read that had a true star-crossed lovers feel to it. I loved the pairing of Sasha and Liam! Even though things between them was rough for most of the book I always felt that there were great possibilities between them. I really became invested in their outcome and was happy to read this book from cover to cover. An issue I had with this book though was the cover. Sasha is actually the “wicked vampire” so why is there a man on the cover? That gave me the impression that I was looking for a male vampire character as the lead character. I was a little confused at first because Liam is a berserker and not a vampire. It’s obviously not a big deal but it did bug me a bit. Sasha should have been on the cover in my opinion as the book is her story. Overall though, I did find The Wicked Vampire to be a saucy read with plenty of good times and great conflict.
