Sierra Kanoska fought hard for her position as wolf alpha of the Red Rock pack, and intruders in her territory receive the full brunt of what her claws, fangs, and smarts can accomplish. So when Dax Williams, de facto alpha of the Silver Springs pack, pays an unwelcome visit, Sierra's ready to toss him out. However, the man's in a tough spot. The pack elders sabotaged his fight for alpha against his brother, driving him from his lands. Sierra hates underhanded moves like that, so she agrees on an alliance.
As they work together, she witnesses an alpha who wants to do right by his pack, not just the cocky wiseass she first met. Their growing attraction blazes hot, but the moment she and Dax lock lips, a mating bond emerges. Sierra sure as hell isn't ready to share that intimate connection with a stranger, and the thought of forever sends Dax running.
Before they can talk, the Tribe commanding the East Coast shifters arrives to settle the dispute. Dax and his brother's punishment for their pack's civil war is a free-for-all on their lands. Not only does he have to defeat his brother, but any challenger in the region. Despite Dax and Sierra's initial resistance, his wily charm relaxes her control-freak tendencies while her steadfast support bolsters his strength. Yet every new opponent places their newfound relationship under siege--one misstep, one wrong blow in the ring, and Dax could leave in a bodybag.
Forged Alliances is the first book in the Tribal Spirits series and I can tell you that this is one series that I will absolutely continue! I am a big fan of paranormal romances because as you know anything goes, what caught my interest in Forged Alliances was that this was a PNR between a mountain lion shifter and wolf shifter! Had to know how that was going to work, lol, and I enjoyed it.
Dax and Sierra were as different as could be. Their only mutual ground was that they were both Alphas and understood the situation with the Silver Springs pack was not good for anyone. Sierra was a tough but fair Alpha and when Dax came looking for assistance she decided to hear him out because having unstable neighbors was not good for her pack. She was not thrilled to be dealing with a wise cracking smart-ass who did not seem to take much seriously.
After going for an investigation on the Silver Springs pack territory, it becomes clear to both Dax and Sierra that they have a serious situation on their hands. Later they discover how serious as Dax’s pack was attacked in such a shameful to shifters way. Dax is going to have to fight to reclaim his pack but with Sierra by his side assisting him and giving him strength he will find that maybe things were looking up.
I liked that both Dax and Sierra’s characters had an essence of their animal in their personalities. It totally came across to me that Dax had a feline counterpart as Sierra had a wolf one. I think it made the story even funnier to see the whole feline versus canine thing play out in relationship building. Dax could really get under Sierra’s skin, that was for sure.
The romance between Dax and Sierra was a bit of a smoldering slow burn. It is clear from the start that there is a connection between them but both agree that they hardly know each other and they didn’t want to start down that road. As the situation with the Silver Spring pack heats up both Sierra and Dax find that what they were feeling was more than lust. They both truly like the qualities they find in each other but was that enough to last a lifetime?
I do love a good paranormal romance and Forged Alliances was a sweet story but it also had it action elements with bonus fight scenes. Such a fantastic blending of elements in this story. It definitely gave me an appetite to want to continue on with this series! This is a paranormal romance that I can say that I highly recommend.
