What People Are Saying About Dating the Undead: “Snarky, sexy, and steamy as a sauna, Dating the Undead will have you throwing out your vampire slaying kit."—KATIE MACALISTER, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Dark Ones series“Quick, sharp wit that sinks its fangs into the reader and doesn't let go!”—MOLLY HARPER acclaimed author of the Half-Moon Hollow and Naked Werewolf series“A fresh spin on the vampire romance.”—Kirkus“A madcap adventure of biting humor, steamy chemistry…and some over-the-top antics.”—RT Book Reviews“Charming and racy romance meets rousing mystery.”—Publishers Weekly
In this world created by Author Juliet Lyon, vampires are the hottest new dating craze, so much so that they have created a dating service called v-date to allow the living to have some one-on-one time with the undead. Drop Dead Gorgeous starts out with Mila going on a date with her first vampire. Mila had been through the ringer with relationships and figured that she would try something new and exciting. Since vampires had come out a few years ago, she thought why not try the undead as the living are pretty much a bust anyhow. She never would have suspected that her first date with the undead would be with a serial killer.
Luckily for Mila, Inspector Vincent Ferrer found her in the nick of time. Mila had been seconds away from being murdered and was unable to do a thing about it due to the glamour that the vampire was using on her. As Mila was the first woman to survive an encounter with the serial killer the police wanted her help with the identification and apprehension of this killer but she was not interested. Just wanting the entire ordeal to be over Mila tried to go on with her life but it quickly became apparent that she was caught in a game of cat and mouse that had little to do with her and more to do with Inspector Ferrer.
Despite Mila’s protests she becomes an integral part of the investigation. Mila and Vincent are soon forced together in an uncomfortable living situation in order to keep Mila safe while simultaneously trying to determine why a serial killer has taken such an interest in her. The situation was an “uncomfortable” one between these two characters because they both find each other extremely attractive and are unable to act on the desire because of the situation they find themselves in. Vincent is an old-fashioned vampire and he does not believe in crossing boundaries with a witness, no matter how irresistible he finds her. Mila is all for a romp in the sheets with Vincent but is unsure if he is even attracted to her. This makes for some smoldering good times to be had.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Drop Dead Gorgeous! Mila’s character kept me chucking with her wit and sarcastic comebacks. I found the sexual tension between her and Vincent to be quite steamy and palpable. The mystery behind the “why” of it all was nicely done. This is definitely a series I am happy to continue and I am looking forward to what comes next. Drop Dead Gorgeous was a steamy read that kept me entertained from start to finish!
