Mackenzie’s Trust is the second novella from the Flashes of Fate series. In this story, I was quickly caught up in the nightmare that was Mackenzie’s reality. Let me tell you that it was not a situation I ever want to encounter myself. It was an absolutely terrifying scenario to consider!
I loved how I was able to feel Mackenzie’s fear, loathing, and anxiety from the start of this short story. Not to mention her utter bafflement that this was actually happening to her. It was brutal! I really liked that there was a canine hero in this story as well. Although he doesn’t play a huge part I appreciate his inclusion.
Mitch was out in the woods minding his own business wandering in the woods with his dog when he came across a scene that was beyond disturbing. Not sure what to make of it at first, he waited to see what was really happening. Once he figured it out he was quick to react but little did he know that this nightmare was far from over.
Both Mitch and Mackenzie were quickly swept away into a struggle to survive and to understand what was happening. In the midst of this struggle though one thing was clear and that was that there was a spark between this couple and that flame was something that they both were interested in exploring if they are able to make it out of their current situation alive.
I tell you what I thoroughly enjoy reading stories from Jane Blythe. They are straight from my nightmares. For real, it is like she can somehow sense what realistic situation would scare the hell out of me and brings it to life! This was another quick read for me that definitely will cross my mind the next time I see a pair of headlights that are too close in my rearview mirror. I highly recommend Mackenzie’s Trust for readers who enjoy a little suspense with their fright.
