ShadowShifters - Shapeshifting wolf creatures that love as fiercely as they fight.
Aidan Bloodlocke never dreamed he was a wolf Shifter, much less an Alpha. When a pack takes him in, his entire world changes, and loyalties are developed. Then disaster strikes, and he’s on a ruthless mission for justice.
When veterinarian Maddie Ardelle moved to Bridgepoint, Maine, to start a normal, peaceful life on her own, she didn’t expect to get herself caught in the crossfire of two factions of violent, feuding werewolves. And definitely not entangled with a sexy biker shifter that made her weak in the knees. Against their will, Maddie and Aidan’s worlds collide, and with an attraction so enthralling, both are helpless to resist.
As Aidan struggles to fight for both love and duty, he uncovers a betrayal so heinous, it puts the lives of his entire pack and the brave woman he desires at unthinkable risk. The stakes are high, and both must decide if Maddie ultimately can live in his violent world of teeth and claw in this action-packed paranormal romance series!
Book Trailer (says pre-order BUT the book is available now):
Selenium Night is the first book in the Shadowshifters series. In this world there are two species of shifter, the Aristans and the Thesians. Both races were created by a different moon goddess and under different circumstances. Arista and Thesia were sisters and Arista created the first shadowshifters, known as the Aristans, out of love. These shadowshifters were intended to worship both sisters but Arista was the only one they truly worshipped. Thesia was angry that the Shadowshifters only worshipped Arista and demanded that her sister destroy her creations. Arista refused and out of spite Thesia created her own race to pursue and destroy Arista’s creations.
This story, Selenium Night, is about the struggle within the Bloodlocke pack. Aidan Bloodlocke is not a blood relative to the Aristan people he called family. He had been adopted when he was a child but had been raised as family by his adoptive parents. Kiernan Bloodlocke however, never accepted Aidan as his brother. In time, he grew to resent Aidan and that resentment grew inexorably when Aidan beat Kiernan for position of Alpha of the pack. Kiernan vowed revenge and through unsavory connections with some Thesians he was able to take his revenge in the worst way possible.
Aidan was the Alpha of the pack but he was also one of the most affected by Kiernan’s betrayal. He vowed justice and went in search of Kiernan who was on the run. The trail led to a small town in Maine and it was there that Aidan had come to find Kiernan and drag him back to be judged by the pack for his crimes. While in town looking for Kiernan, Aidan happened upon a local bar where he was scenting that Kiernan had been recently. While peering into the window he saw that there was a brawl between two Thesians that was about to take place with a human woman in the mix. He didn’t want to help her necessarily but his conscience would not let him leave her to the wolves. Once inside the bar, Aidan realized that there was something about Maddie that called to him and he knew he needed to protect her.
Maddie Ardelle had recently moved to Bridgepoint to start a new life. She had left a bad situation behind and was trying to start over again. She had bought a local veterinary practice and although she was very busy and met many people every day, she did not really have any friends beyond her receptionist Greta. So, heeding her receptionist’s advice she decided to head out for a night of fun. Seeing the closest bar, she went in and ordered a drink, just looking to unwind. From the start, nothing went right and before she knew what was going on she was pinned between two hot headed males and about to become a casualty of male posturing.
Both Aidan and Maddie felt an attraction to each other and the draw was quite intoxicating for both of them. Aidan knew that it was a bad idea to get involved with a human but he couldn’t help himself. She offered him acceptance and that was a foreign yet intoxicating feeling and he wanted more of that. Unfortunately, Maddie did not know the truth about Aidan and the Aristans had a rule about interaction with humans, it was forbidden. Thesians take humans to bed and used them for their purposes but Aristans never did. In fact, they distanced themselves as far as possible from humans. For Aidan to even consider getting to know Maddie, it would be a mistake of grave proportions.
Not only was it a bad idea to get involved in a romance, Aidan’s brother was gathering up Thesians trying to build his own pack so that he could take revenge! As the hunt for Kiernan continued, Aidan found that he was going to have to go outside his comfort zone and learn to trust others. Something he had never been able to do easily. He would have to push all the boundaries and question age old traditions if he was going to be successful in his hunt. As the danger escalated, Aidan was going to have to make a choice between his love or his people, and he was torn!
I thoroughly enjoyed all the characters in Selenium Night. The conflict between the main characters was set up nicely and I liked the backstory with where these races of shifters came from. The shifters themselves were unique and I enjoyed that they had different levels of “shifting” that they could control. There were also several differences between the two species of shifters. Super cool! I kind of wished that the goddesses would have played a part throughout the story though. The romance between Maddie and Aidan was sweet, swoony, and packed with heat! Maddie was human but she was fierce in her own ways and that was just fantastic. Overall, this was a strong series starter and I am really looking forward to seeing where things go for both races. It was a great read!
