Scandal will shake foundationsTreachery will tip balancesChoices will have consequences and secrets? Those will change everything
A night of careless passion leaves Battlemage Jex Xander and Adept Enari Alycon in a precarious position. Long-time lovers they might be, but the Imperial ambassador and the daughter of Egalion’s High Mage have rather public roles in the court—whether they wish it or not—and scandal couldn’t come at a worse time.
When a hostile kingdom reluctantly agrees to parley, the fate of two-thousand years of peace is on the line. In the midst of negotiations, Enari becomes the target of one of the Greater Maelstrom. She and Jex must race against time to save her life and that of her unborn child. What happens when an earth-shattering secret, a demon bent on destruction, and a kingdom teetering on the brink of war collide is anyone’s guess.
The decisions of a few will determine the fate of many, and who or what will remain standing in the end is still uncertain. Hearts and lives are on the cusp of irrevocable change…and not necessarily for the better.
Flash Point is the second book in the Elemental Trials series. I flew through this book! Flew. Through. It. What a captivating read, I could not get enough. The language and the tone were just perfect for me. I will say though, that this is a book that would be best read in series order. It is helpful to understand the political backdrop that was thoroughly explained in the first book.
A few years have passed since the ending of the last book, Errant Spark. Jax and Enari have been separated while she has been finishing up her apprenticeship, which has been hard on both of them. Now she has come to the end of her time as an apprentice and must pass her magical trials. Enari has asked Jax to come and serve as her “Chosen” for her day of ascension and she is very nervous and excited to see him again. Soon she will no longer be an apprentice and a whole new path awaits Enari.
A whole new path that includes some desperately needed time alone with her lover. Jax was quite the player in the last book but there was something that drew him to Enari. Since then he has changed completely and I absolutely fell in love with his character in this story. The relationship between him and Enari was so sweet, steamy, and sexy. I could not get enough. His character has really developed into an honorable man and the intensity with which he loves Enari, sigh…swoon!!
Enari and Jax may have only had the one night but they made the best of it. It was not until the next day that Enari realized that she was not wearing her necklace which prevents pregnancy. Figuring that her chances of pregnancy were low, she thought nothing more the matter. Jax was due to return to Rowan where he must once again take up his duties to the Tora. This time Enari will be able to join him and see her family. Enari was beyond thrilled to be spending more time with Jax as well as with Eryk, her father.
Once they reached Rowan things started to escalate politically as well as personally. Enari and Jax had never discussed having a future or if children were even part of a future he wanted. Not knowing what to do, Enari kept silent on the matter until it was almost too late. I really enjoyed the mix between politics, subterfuge, and romance. There was so much going on in this story but it was magnificently done with prefect pacing.
Sooo good! As the ending was drawing near all I could say was wow! Not ever what I was expecting and more than I thought I could handle. This story has all the feels! I just loved it and now I am absolutely in desperate need for the next installment in this series. Flash Point is a book that I highly recommend to all readers! It is a good read!
