When it comes to women, shy and awkward are Detective Sauer’s middle name. And, well, the woman he wants to ask out is the exact opposite—loud and crazy. He can’t seem to form coherent words when Dee’s near. The minute she’s attacked, evidence connecting it to one of his murder cases, his shyness slowly starts to dissipate. Nothing will stop him from protecting her. Except maybe Dee herself.
Dee O’Malley isn’t naïve to think she’ll ever find love. Men never stick around. Ever. Not even a relationship with sweet, shy Sauer would last. But it’s oh so tempting to start one, especially when his kisses insist it’s possible. That doesn’t mean his kisses will stop her from finding the bastard who attacked her, something that riles him up. Besides, he’s adorable when he gets upset. And she can’t resist that.
Warning: This novel contains a sexy detective. There is insta-love. But it’s book three so you probably know that already if you read the first two. *wink* Happy reading!
Note: Each book can be read as a standalone.
The A One Taste Novel series is set around a group of friends who started out working in the same firm until an event occurred that changed their lives forever. I really appreciate that each book in this series focuses on a specific character but also includes the characters from previous books. Dee O’Malley was introduced in the first book of this series but it was not until One Taste of Crazy that we were able to learn her backstory. There are many things I love about author Amanda Siegrist’s writing but the biggest for me is that I love her characters. I know I have said this before but the development of her characters is such that you become attached to every single one of them. Even the ones that are a wee bit unlovable. Dee’s character is a real piece of work but even though she was not my favorite I could not help but want good things for her.
In One Taste of Crazy Dee has finally noticed, or accepted, that Detective Sauer has his eyes set on her. Too bad she won’t give him a chance. Dee has always been the loudest gal in the crowd. She is fiercely protective of her friends but more than that she is protective of her heart. She wears a prickly exterior in order to keep anyone from getting too close. Her childhood was a rough one and seeing how her mother always tried to “keep” a man around made Dee absolutely sure that she was never going to allow that for herself. It is because of this that Dee has never had a true relationship with a fella. She developed a “love ‘em and leave ‘em” attitude to keep her heart safe but when Detective Sauer clumsily asks her out on a date she finds that despite her convictions she can’t outright shoot him down or treat him how she would an ordinary guy.
Detective Sauer is a shy guy around women but is a take charge guy in his line of work. His childhood was one of bullies and taunting and it has left him with some self-confidence issues in certain departments. His biggest challenge being talking to and dating women. Despite everyone feeling that Dee is completely wrong for him, and being vocal about it as well, he can’t help being infatuated with her. Everything about her calls to him and when he finally works up the nerve to ask her out, as bumbling as it was, she tells him he is adorable and walks away. This leaves Sauer is a state of confusion and embarrassment. He made a muck of things but she didn’t say no. Not knowing what to think of this, Sauer decides that he is going to try and put Dee out of mind. Until the moment that he gets that call: “Sauer, I need you.,” all his thoughts of moving on without Dee come crashing to a halt.
When Dee realized that she was not alone in her house, the first person she thought to call was Sauer. That was the beginning of her realizing that maybe just maybe Sauer had wormed his way past the protective barrier she had around her heart. Also, any misgivings she may have had about Sauer being able to handle her quickly dissipated. As soon as he made it to the scene everything changed between them. Dee saw that Sauer was no pushover and his take charge attitude was an eye-opener for her. Or maybe it was his sweet but fierce kisses?? When Sauer realized that Dee was being targeted by the perp who has been responsible for a recent homicide he will do anything to keep her safe. He may be shy around women but when the woman he cares for is in danger, Sauer is all business.
Dee is used to relying on herself and when she does not get the answers she wants from Sauer, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Sauer just wants to keep Dee safe and he also wants her to give him a chance to protect her. As tensions rise between these two characters so does the heat. Although neither Sauer or Dee can deny the attraction between them, they also have their own internal battles that threaten to drive them apart. In the end, it becomes a race against time and Sauer has to pull out all the stops in order to save Dee from the monster that wishes to have her for himself. What an experience. This story is one filled with romance, mystery, and suspense, all of which are expertly woven into a delightful tale that will keep you in states of excitement and alarm until the completion of this story.
