“The end of an Empire. The rise of a Queen.”
Emory Fae enjoys leading a quiet, normal life that is until two mysterious, and dare I say handsome soldiers show up at her apartment doorstep and the life she knew is instantly whisked away. Coming from the magical and ravaged world of Kiero, Emory is brought back not realizing that both men are darkly woven in her past. Discovering she is the long lost heir to the Royal Line Emory is thrown into Black Dawn Rebellion with a dynamic role to ignite the rebels and reclaim her throne. With both lives clashing Emory uncovers hidden secrets from her past, a power held long dormant, and will soon realize there are worse things than supernatural humans, love, loss, betrayal, and a Mad King.
Some things are better left in the shadows.
Practical advice for beginning writers
by Mallory McCartney
Thank you for having me!! Writing is a wild journey, and I am here today to share some of my advice that I have learnt so far on my own writing journey! With Black Dawn, I wrote the original manuscript at the end of Grade Eight beginning of Grade Nine. I wrote it for the love and inspiration I found for the story by talking with my cousin, about the world of Kiero. I wrote it because I loved writing, and imagining the characters and what they would be like. My first piece of advice for any beginner writer, is to write for you. Because you are passionate about your story and enjoy it. This is so important!! I personally left the idea of Black Dawn alone for seven years after this, and revisited writing later in life when I found that passion again.
Next, is that after you have your first draft, this is only the beginning. 😉 Take the time to get your manuscript as polished as you can get it before submitting it to agents and companies, it is well worth the time! Also, don’t give up if you get rejections!!! This is just part of the process, I went through this before finding Clean Reads Publishing, and they were the fit for me! Trust your gut and do what feels right for you and your story!!
Have a great support system. Honestly, I would be a puddle of mush without my husband, my family and my friends. It is equally important to build your “street team” once your book is published. As a writer, this helps spread the word! Be active on social media, and promote your work as well as other authors! The writing industry is vast, but it is awesome to be supportive of one another as we all chase our dreams!! I have connected with some wonderful people and friends this past year this way!
Lastly, never give up on your dream of becoming an author, or on your story! Keep writing, and you never know where it could lead you!
– Thank you for being here! Your post was most insightful.
