Every family holds a secret.
How far would yours go to keep it?

Twenty-eight year old schoolteacher, Claudia Cabriati, has no memory of her life before the age of eight. This is not something she thought unusual, until a strangely familiar woman possessing knowledge of that life, is shot and killed in the grounds of Claudia’s home.

Another brutal murder follows, along with the heartbreaking revelation of an unimaginable family conspiracy. Claudia crumbles into a world driven by fear and the irrational need to run and hide.
Why were people suddenly dying around her? Were any of her family, particularly her much-beloved Papa, involved in their deaths? More importantly, would her life be next?

With her trust challenged by those she loves, Claudia turns to the mysterious and enigmatic Saul Reardon. Together they embark on a dangerous journey in search of answers.

But is the past sometimes better left buried?

Set amongst the natural beauty of Australia’s eastern coastline and its richly forested hinterland, Forgotten is a fast-paced mystery thriller that explores the controversial nature of family love and protection, loyalty and self-preservation.

Forgotten was just lovely! It is a superb tale that is intricately woven with details and developed characters. This story takes place over a matter of days but the start of it all stretches back over a decade. Claudia has never really been bothered by her lack of memory from before the age of seven but it quickly becomes apparent that there is something being hidden from her, something that she has forgotten. Through triggering events, her memory starts to come back via flashbacks and someone wants Claudia to leave the situation alone. They are even willing to kill to keep her away from the truth, or so it seems.

Claudia has spent her life feeling as if she was being watched. Her family has always pushed off her fears as an over active imagination but when Claudia’s fiancé is murdered in an almost ritualistic fashion things start to unravel for her. When a person who seems too familiar to be a stranger pops up in Claudia’s life only to be killed in front of her Claudia retreats back to the only refuge she has known, her family. Strangely though things are not adding up and Claudia starts to think that her family knows more than they are letting on.

At the behest of her best friend, Mel, Claudia agrees to an appointment with Saul Reardon. He is a private investigator who can get things done faster and with better results than the police usual can. Feeling that the situation is ridiculous, Claudia blows off that appointment and decides to just move on with things. Life though has a way of getting the better of you and it did so to Claudia. When she came home after spending the holiday with her family she found out that there was another person killed in her property. This became the final straw for Claudia, she could no longer deny that there was a nefarious scheme in play. It is also where her path finally crosses with the infamous Saul Reardon.

Saul is not interested in helping Claudia out of the goodness of his heart. Claudia is somehow connected with persons of interest in an ongoing personal investigation led by Saul. During the course of his investigation Claudia’s name has come up between his suspects and he is bound and determined to figure out how she is connected. If so, can she lead him to the answers he has desperately been seeking? With the help of the Watson to his Holmes, Ethan, they will run down all the clues afforded to them while seeking out the answers to whom exactly is hunting Claudia. What no one realizes is that the places this mystery will lead will not only shock but surprise everyone.

Oh my gosh people, the mystery was amazing! I did not know, truly was not even sure who the bad guy was. I could have made an educated guess as to what was the truth of the matter but I would have been wrong. I absolutely loved that! So many twists and turns! This book truly kept my interest. For those of you wondering, there is a little romance going on between Saul and Claudia’s character but it is more of a smoldering desire rather than Sexy Times. It was delightful and realistic between these two but it was akin to instant attraction but no “undying devotion” type endearments. Nice!

Though there are many open story threads left by the end of this story, it is related to characters outside of Claudia. That leads me to believe that there will be more in this world that was created and I am definitely up for that. My one “I wish” was that we could have had the backstories on the supporting characters Saul and Ethan. They had pasts that were brought up and referenced but the story never fully told their history. I really would have liked their complete stories.

Overall, this was a gem and I loved it! There is so much going on with the characters but the storyline keeps it all flowing smoothly. It was enjoyable following the breadcrumbs that led to the final reveal and I was surprised. This is a book I highly recommend to readers who love a good mystery!
