What if you knew you had just met the other part of your soul—the one who could take away all the pain and loneliness—but no one believes you because the rugged stranger from the woods is nowhere to be found? Would you search for him? Would you be strong enough to believe he exist somewhere out in the darkness where you he found you? And if you were to finally find the stranger from the woods and learn he is like no other tale that has ever been told… would you still have the courage to love him?

Rose has no time for romance because her father has passed away from an illness plaguing her small town, and now her mother has also contracted the illness, leaving Rose’s two younger siblings to be her responsibility. But when her best friend forces her to be young for a night and celebrate her twentieth birthday with a bonfire and friends, Rose meets a stranger from the woods, and Rose soon learns he is no stranger at all. In fact, this magical being is trying to keep her… alive.
Two bloods of one will bring down the shadows, to cast, no more...

I have read several books by India Adams. My first book was actually a novella called Blue Waters from the Tainted Waters series. That book was just amazingly written and it just tore my heart out in all the best ways! I loved it so much that I had added it to my favorites shelf at Goodreads. India and I were chatting on Twitter and she gifted me any book that she had written! Why you ask? Well it was because I had one of her books on my favorite shelf. Any book I wanted people, I was like a kid in a candy shop!! So, after considering many interesting books I chose the book titled Rain. Best choice ever!!!!!!

Rain takes place in a small town that has been crippled due to a mysterious illness that had been spreading through the adults. Many children and young adults have been orphaned or have had to quit school in order to get a job to help support their families. Rose is no exception to this as her father has already died and her mother is seriously ill. The overall feeling of this town is despair.

Gunner is Rose’s best friend and he also is in love with her. He and his father have been helping Rose and her family to get by ever since the death of her father. Rose has never considered Gunner as anything other than a friend until one day when everything changes. Something has awoken in Rose and she is confused as to why she is being affected. Assuming that she must be noticing Gunner in a different way Rose explores a relationship with Gunner. Although Rose loves Gunner with all her heart she just feels that she is missing the passion she should feel for him. What she didn’t know is that there is someone else that her soul is yearning for. I love this!

A passion that escapes her until she meets a stranger in the woods. Except that he truly is no stranger to her, she is just unaware of how she should know Ryder. Ryder is an elf and not just any elf he is a warrior elf that has been sent with his brothers-in-arms to protect Rose’s town. They are in charge of keeping the spread of the plague to a minimum because the one’s responsible for the death and destruction are clones of the Demon King. Although not aware of her importance, Ryder has been tasked with protecting Rose only. Initially this was not a task that Ryder accepted willingly.

Ryder is an elf, Rose is a human, it is unbelievable that an attraction could exist between these two species in this world. So, Ryder does not understand how Rose can affect him so. At the start, he only comes close to Rose during the night when the demons are active and apparently even though Rose is asleep, subconsciously she knows him and needs him and calls out to him. This confuses Ryder and also enflames his passion for her.

The elves can never be seen by humans so they must keep their presence a secret. They fight a war in the shadows protecting citizens who were never aware of the danger they were in. What follows is a story full of twists and turns that is wrapped in fantasy, romance, and destruction because it has been foretold that Rose is connected to a prophecy that will bring about the end for good or for bad.

Now I am never a fan of love triangles and this was the first book I have read that had a love triangle but it was a romantic love versus a friendship love. Both Gunner and Ryder loved Rose passionately but it was only sexual between Ryder and Rose with one exception. I can say that I did not love that aspect of the story. I feel that the boundaries in the relationships were very blurred at times and I had a hard time accepting some actions as platonic. It worked very well for the story and it made it special so I cannot say that it is a true complaint. I just did not appreciate it the way others would.

I loved this story! There were elves, trolls, demons, and half-bloods. There was also steamy romance, endearing friendships and it had a nice good versus evil vibe. The way that the prophecy unfolds in this story is truly unique. Nothing like I had ever read before and it was done well. There were so many ways it could have gone wrong but it works! I highly recommend both this book and this author!

India was born and raised in Florida but has also been so lucky as to live in Idaho (where she froze but fell in love with the small town life), Austin Texas (where she started her first book, Serenity, and met wonderful artist), and now Murphy, North Carolina (where the mountains have stolen a piece of her heart).

Being a survivor of abuse, has inspired India to let others know they have nothing to be ashamed of. She put her many years of professional theater background to the test and has written fictional stories with a shadow of her personal experiences. Another cause India feels needs change, is Sexual Slavery. She has joined forces with jewelers to design beautiful ways to raise money for non-profit organizations. Even though India writes about serious subjects such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, and Human Trafficking, she has a magnificent sense of humor, as do the characters she creates. Perfectly balanced between laughter and tears, her readers see how to empower their own perfect imperfections.
