One night . . .

One terrible accident . . .

That was all it took to turn my entire life upside-down. My PTSD is worse than ever. The terror I thought I left in my past is back, and this time I might not survive the horrors he promises to bring.

An old friend, Griffin, my best friend at one time bulldozes his way back into my life. He has the power to consume me. I want him... and that is terrifying. Can he actually protect me from the evil that wants to tear me apart?

Fifteen years . . .

That's how long I have let the guilt eat me alive for hurting her with my words the way I did. I never thought I would get the chance to atone for my sins. Now that I do, I will stop at nothing to help her, save her . . . keep her.

The only thing I want, apart from Kaylee in my bed, is to protect her from the monster who wants to destroy her.

I cannot say that before reading this book I really understood Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Since this story revolves around this disorder/illness I did do some research into it. In order to really judge the realism that the author is trying to convey I needed to be familiar with the subject matter otherwise I would not be able to fairly review this book. If you want a quick info bite on PTSD I have included a link HERE.

Kaylee Robbins character has been through what I cannot ever fully imagine. She has been beaten and victimized. A past filled with drugs, broken promises, and betrayals that have left her compromised. She was in a relationship with a man named Tyler who was chronically abusive. It became so bad that he almost took her life. After surviving that last terrible beating, Kaylee had Tyler locked up for domestic violence. Even with that monster locked away Kaylee’s nightmare was only starting.

Ten years have passed and Kaylee suffers from PTSD due to the abuse that she suffered at the hands of Tyler. Yet, through it all she has struggled to move forward. Until one night it appears that Tyler is free and has finally found her. She cannot be sure because she has no proof that he is back but she starts to have episodes more frequently. These episodes result in consequences that lead Kaylee to Griffin. Her childhood friend, a friend who turned his back on her with no explanations. One of her greatest sources of hurt and he is to be her PTSD counselor.

Griffin is a man who has his own demons. He has served in the military and seen what war can do to his brothers in arms. He has made it his mission to offer what he can to Vets who may need help adjusting to civilian life or who may suffer from PTSD. It was not just helping Vets that brought Griffin into the specialty of treating PTSD. He learned what had happened to Kaylee, the woman he owed a thousand apologies to, and he hoped that one day he would be the one to help her heal.

Things are never that simple! Someone is after Kaylee and they are terrorizing her in every imaginable way. It will take everything she has and the protection of Griffin in order to survive the onslaught of violence that is threatening to destroy her and her family.

This story is a roller-coaster of emotion. There are highs and there are lows but there is no point in which you will find yourself bored. The pacing is fast! The characters in this story are written well. You feel that they really care about each other. The flashbacks that Kaylee experiences are descriptive, realistic and convincing. It is a high emotion story with lots of exclamation marks! There are strong feelings throughout this story by all characters.

The author has taken a disorder that is known but maybe not so well understood and fleshed it out through the character of Kaylee Robbins. I feel that she stayed true to what is known of PTSD and tried to show how it might feel to suffer from it. She showed the misconception from family members, how little they really understood the illness and how hard it could be to deal with the effects when the symptoms can manifest themselves without warning. This was an emotionally provoking story with humor, romance, and perseverance woven throughout the telling.
