One night of glorious bliss.
One night turned into utter humiliation.
Zoe Sullivan doesn't want to see the man who took her for a prostitute ever again. But when her boss is murdered, she can't believe who the lead detective on the case is.
One idiotic mistake.
One more chance to make it right.
Detective Zeke Chance vows to make it up to Zoe for the way he treated her. Nothing will stop him—except maybe the killer.
♥ Warning: This novel contains a sexy detective. There is insta-lust turned into insta-love. If you don't want to read that kind of book, turn back now! But you know you wanna. ♥
Hilarious, romantic and with a bit of suspense! The opening scene of this book had me laughing out loud! I felt awful for the main character as she had her self-esteem kicked around and after meeting up with Zeke she had round two of an esteem bashing. Zeke is a bit of a fool. I can’t blame him for his choices because Zoe made things really easy on him to draw misassumptions.
There is insta-love in this story but trust me that initially it is one-sided. There is a great comedic flow throughout this story. Zeke’s focus on bringing Zoe around was endearing and had me cracking up. Another great element was the friends of Zoe and Zeke. They were great supporting characters and added to the story. That is something that I truly appreciate about Amanda Siegrist’s writing style. Each of her characters add to the story and are memorable. So much so that she can have a successful spin-off from a story with those characters. By the end of any of her stories you are wanting to know how the story ends for the others. Love it!
In addition to a sweet romance there was also the suspense element that Ms. Amanda is known for. When Zeke does run into Zoe after that fatal first night it is not to apologize, although he is dying to, but to investigate the murder of her boss. There is action, danger, and a good mystery of who done it that keeps you guessing up until the very end.
This is a romantic comedy at its heart though. There were elements that are a bit over the top while still being comical, like how Zeke was giving out a ton of information about a case he was actively investigating. His character does make mention of how he shouldn’t be doing that but feels the knowledge may keep the others safe.
There is so much humor, sass, and romance in this book. The relationships between the characters feels authentic. This couple argues a lot but they also don’t communicate very well which they acknowledge. I think that anyone in a new relationship would be able to relate to getting into a lot of silly arguments. This is a delightfully funny read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys reading rom-coms!
