When Mr. Black becomes the top suspect in a murder investigation, Isobel Avery is roped into helping Etta, her Glock, and her greyhound clear his name.

Except her boyfriend Connor is warning her to stay out of it, the new client she’s protecting from poison threats requires her full attention, and oh yeah, Izzy thinks Mr. Black might be guilty… He did once try to beat her to a pulp after all.

To make matters worse, Etta and Izzy aren’t the only ones digging in to this case, and the other parties are a whole lot more dangerous. And if Mr. Black didn’t do it, then the real killer is still out there and might not appreciate their interference.

As Izzy struggles to make sure the right bad guy goes to prison, find her footing in her new romantic relationship, and integrate herself into her client’s alien world of high-society ladies—the same world the victim is from—she’d better watch out for poisons, vengeance, and firebombs.

*** Includes bonus short story: Taste of Christmas ***

This is the third installment in the Eat, Pray, Die Humorous Mystery series and I am finding that I am just loving this series! This story starts directly after the end of the “Taste of Christmas” novella. Izzy and Connor have just spent a few days together but duty calls and they need to get back to the real world. Their employment with the Taste Society can makes things quite difficult in regards finding time to be alone. In case you are unfamiliar with the Taste Society, it is a super-secret organization that trains candidates to aid in the identification of poisons. Once they graduate from the intensive training the operatives become known as shades. Izzy is employed as a shade and Connor works as a detective investigating crimes against their clients.

Izzy is stepping out on her own, well is it really stepping out when Etta is prodding her in the back? Mr. Black has run into some serious trouble and Etta, Izzy’s elderly neighbor, is determined that they must prove his innocence. She assumes that Izzy has experience investigating crimes due to her relationship with Connor and guilt’s Izzy into helping her. Oh my, Etta just keeps the laughs coming in this story. She may be over seventy but she has the enthusiasm of a young woman. The situations they find themselves in is nothing short of hilarious.

In addition to playing amateur detective Izzy has a to deal with her new client who is a socialite of the highest standing. Trying to prevent her employer from being poisoned is tough enough. Now add in a nemesis from the Training Academy by the name of Emily and you are in for some serious entertainment.

There is a bit of romance with Connor but it is not the focus of this book. It is more about stealing kisses and learning that in order for a relationship to survive they need to get to know each other. A struggle for Connor because he is very closed off. He tries to give Izzy what she needs and I think it is very sweet. Also, making an appearance in this story is Connor’s family whom were introduced in the “Taste of Christmas” novella. I adore their characters and was thrilled to see Connor’s sister involved in Izzy and Etta’s escapades.

What an enjoyable read. I find that after four stories from Author Chelsea Field she truly knows how to write an original series that just keeps you engaged from start to finish. Her characters are all fleshed out and I just find myself wanting more of everything. I am hooked, keep them coming because I am looking forward to the next book in this fabulous series.

About Chelsea Field

Author Chelsea Field

Chelsea Field has lived an exciting life for an introvert.

She’s fallen off a galloping racehorse, faced down dozens of Australia’s most dangerous animals (including vicious roosters, for those of you who’ve read EAT, PRAY, DIE), and while she’s never sold buns or coffee for a living like her protagonist, she’s consumed plenty of both.

Yes, all of those points are about animals or food. I told you she’s an introvert.

After writing a romantic comedy (no, you can’t read it) where the hero was a photographer from Burnside and then meeting and marrying a photographer from Burnside a few years later, she’s a little worried her writing has weird prophetic fate-like powers. So she makes sure nothing too bad ever happens to her characters, just in case life decides to imitate fiction again.
