Wrap-Up for August 2016

Posted September 3, 2016 by Minx

Where has the summer gone? It was over way to soon! August was another busy month for me! I am still participating in the Wobble Challenge over at Goodreads. Over the course of the month we participated in the Wheel-a-Thon, which consisted of us having to spell out words like “Snow Leopards.” We had to read books that started with the first letter of the word. For example the “S” in snow, I could read the book Strange Days, then a teammate would read a book for “N” like Not Quite Perfect. You get the drift. As a team we are fast readers so we had hard words. Also, since we have started the challenge we have as a team read 736 books!! We started out with 17 team members but we are now down to 13.

Right now we are participating in a new portion of the Wobble Challenge called Bingo. Yes it is just like the game but we have to read books that match the squares. It is actually quite fun. Some squares are very specific like “title contains Knight” meaning the word knight is in the title, example: Tarnished Knight. Then other squares will have pictures of something and you have to try and find a book that has an appropriate representation. An example of this would be a picture of a clown, I could read Stephen King’s book “It” because it is about a killer clown. We are in this challenge for at least another week or two. We have two challenges left after Bingo which are Labors of Bookules and Emerge the Victor, I will of course keep you posted.

So what was my favorite book for the month of August? The is another hard choice but I did manage to fall in love with a short story Blue Waters by India R. Adams:

Blue Waters by India R. AdamsThis was my blurb on this story:

This was seriously one of my favorite short stories so far! It had humor, depth, great characters and at the end just tore out my heart. Maybe someday I will give an more in-depth review but for now just know that I loved this story and I am blown away that I could be so emotionally connected in 112 pages or less.

Again, this was a book that I found looking to fulfill the Wobble challenge and I am just so happy to be in this challenge. It has opened my eyes to so many new authors! I know I just gush about this challenge but it has been so beneficial for me as a reader that I just have to gush! No worries, only 2 more months and then you will not have to hear about it anymore, lol.

Now I will also say that I have found a new series and author that I am just in love with! I read the first book in this series in July and liked it enough to continue on but now I know I just can not get enough of the Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones. There is nothing about this series that I just do not love. My favorite parts for those who have never read her books are the intro blurbs. An example is:

We are all searching for someone whose demons play well with ours. – Bumper Sticker

Every chapter has a saying that is either from a t-shirt, status update, or bumper sticker and they are just hilarious! The witty sarcasm and banter between the characters just cracks me up but there is also a great storyline that just keeps me going! I am in love with this series!!

So far this is what I have read from this series this month:

Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet by Darynda Jones Fifth Grave Past the Light by Darynda Jones Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones

Here are more great and not so great books that I have read this month. If you see anything you are interested in just click on the picture and it will take you to the Goodreads page for that book and most of the time a mini-review from me.
