As you know I read a ton of books in June. I wanted to do some “mini-reviews” (well in some cases more like rants) on a few of those books because I thought it would be fun.
I gave this 2 stars. I was not the biggest fan of the storyline or characters. The fantasy portion was “been there, done that.” The romance angle, ugh too much brother and sister kissing the same people, seriously ugh. The writing was done well enough that I wanted to read it to the end. Once I finished it my overall feeling was that the whole story felt unreal and rushed.
I gave this one 4 stars. What have I come to expect from Cassandra Clare? Utterly complete awesomeness with a knife stuck in my heart at the end. This was a fabulous spin off from the Mortal Instrumentsseries. Action packed, great characters, awesome world development, lust, heartbreak, and agony! There is really nothing that I can fault except my feeling at the end: “well that ending just sucked!” I get it people, it part of a series, but damn could she not slice my heart open and watch it bleed?? Keep posted for a more thorough review on this one.
2.5 stars! Let the booing start. I wanted to like it, I really did but it was just soooooooooo boring. Yes there was a lot going on but with the first person voice and how it was written, boring! It took me 2 days of picking it up and putting it down to finish it (that is a long time for me) and the ending, come one! Maven repeats many phrases over and over again that I think that people became hypnotized, maybe if I read it backwards I would de-code the subliminal messages? Sigh, I just do not see what all the fuss was about.
I rated this 3 stars. This was the first book for me that had a foodie focus and I can say that this is not for me. The story was well written and the characters had their charms but the foodie focus just wasn’t something that pulled me in. The humor was lost on me and I do not think a guy wanting to eat cupcakes all the time is sexy. Everything was lost on me in this book.
If you are a foodie fan, like cupcakes and other assorted pastry items, hot guys and a crazy monkey then give this book a try. I think you’ll like it.
Another 3 stars. I am a fan of Author Jen Turano’s writing style. This is the third book in the A Class of Their Own series and although it was enjoyable, it was not what I was hoping for. I felt that there were comical elements and romantic elements to the story but that the story dragged at times and could have ended far sooner than it did.
Overall, enjoyable light read brought to a happy ending with some unusual twists and comedic elements that we have all come to expect and enjoy from Ms. Turano.
4 stars! OOOOOoooooooohhhhhhh, I really liked this book! I just get giddy over heist storylines and this was a well executed heist plot! It had it’s flaws and I wish that the main protagonists were older, but their age/experience is explained in such a way it leaves you considering that it could be possible. I loved it and will read on in this series. Fingers crossed and hoping not to be disappointed.
2 stars! I wanted to love this book, I really did. It is a take on the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. What is her original prince did not come and she was unable to wake from being terrorized by the evil fairy who cast the spell….until one day a determined prince came along and released her from her imprisonment. Sounds interesting but felt to me that the Princess had no personality. It took Princess Brierly until page 392 to be “convinced” that Prince Arpien was not a figment from a dream! I get where the author was going with the storyline but it failed to keep me entertained.
